CEA Component Competition-35.000 Euro awarded

Norman Franke   22 Jan 2004 18:56 GMTPage rating:

Hi,

Within the scope of ASAM e. V. the workgroup CEA (Components for Evaluation
and Analysis) standardized the interfaces and data objects of software
components. So systems for measurement data analysis and -visualization can
be created from components of different manufacturers.

The specification 1.0 has been available since June 2002. To bring the
potential of the ASAM CEA standard closer to providers and users and to
motivate the development of compatible software components the ASAM CEA
calls a competition for CEA components.

The aim of this competition is the creation of a component able to operate
in a CEA environment (based on Java. or .NET.) and fulfilling a task in the
sphere of measurement- and automation technology.

Task

A component has to be developped which is in accordance with the CEA
specification 1.0, section .CEA Foundation Platform. and able to run in the
given test environment (see point .environment.). No handicaps are given
deliberately for the function of this component to support the diversity of
the component development. At the end of the competition there should not
exist 100 solutions for the same

problem but a diversity of solutions for a variety of tasks. For this reason
each component from the rough sphere measurement- and automation technology
is accepted. Examples for components from this area are: calculation
components, (formula editor, FFT, ...), portrayal components (XY-, time
chart, characteristic field, 3D-representations, video, special diagrams,
..), data acquisition components (data import, database import (browser), .).
According to the CEA specification the component can be an importer, a
worker, an output component or a combination of these component sorts named
after their function.

Categories

The competition consists of two areas:

a) Open Source: The component is published under the LGPL licence model. In
addition, the source code is revealed and can be published by the ASAM e.
V..

b) Closed Source: The sources do not need to be revealed. The entire rights
remain with the party handing in the components.

Further details are available under www.asam.net.

Kindly Regards.

Norman Franke
