version 1.8 with major enhancements. "This release includes improved prioritization and expiration of messages, topic hierarchies (an ability to subscribe to a set or a subset of a hierarchal topic tree), and an HTTP transport for use as a firewall-friendly transport layer."

JSR 278 - Resource Management Framework to the JCP. "The core of this API is an interface called ResourceManager which defines an interface that all resource managers must provide. The functionality provided by ResourceManager is the ability to force the reclamation of all resources bound to a specific application execution environment. Also, resource managers (classes implementing the ResourceManager interface) may be dynamically added to the framework. This provides extensibility which allows new profiles to be added to the Java platform and still benefit from the integrated resource management framework."
