The Jakarta Tapestry development team has announced the release of version 4.0 beta 1 of the web application framework. "Tapestry 4.0 represents a significant advance over Tapestry 3.0... The complete list of changes is almost too numerous to enumerate Suffice to say, everything is about getting more bang for the buck; reducing the amount of Java code, reducing the complexity of templates, and simplifying (or eliminating) XML files."

The JBoss Group has announced the availability of EJB 3.0 Beta 1. "This release models as closely as possible to the upcoming Public Draft of the EJB 3.0 specification. The spec was a fast moving target the past few weeks, so we still need to cross the T's and dot the i's as far as spec compliance goes. We plan on doing another release sometime in July to complete some of the minor stuff we are missing. Special thanks goes especially to Emmanuel Bernard, Bill DeCoste, and of course Gavin 'guys! guys!' King."

Version 2.0-beta 10 of Java scripting language Sleep has been released. They write in, "&wait was added to wait for a fork or callback read to finish. The binary data format parser was reworked to allow specification of an endianess. Most of java.lang.Math was bridged into the Sleep default library. This release also includes several bug fixes."

The Apache Hivemind project has released version 1.1-beta2. "The latest release of the HiveMind services and configuration microkernel progresses towards a final 1.1 release. A few minor features were added (a rule, JUnit Tests reports), a few minor bugs were fixed, and a few things were changed so that HiveMind will build under JDK 1.5 (but still run under JDK 1.3)."

The ObjectWeb Consortium has announced the release of version 1.3.3 of database clustering application C-JDBC. "This new release includes many fixes for better JDBC compliance and stability. We have added support for all types of CREATE commands and upgraded our checkstyle standards that lead to a significant code cleaning. The group communication, stored procedures and load balancers have been fixed and improvemed especially for distributed virtual databases. We are constantly working on improving the code base and your feedback is very welcome."

IBM's alphaWorks has released ADIEU (Ad Hoc Development and Integration Tool for End Users), rapid development tool for web applications and webservices. "By using this tool, end users can develop Web services and Web applications without any Java or J2EE knowledge. Users can develop these applications by using collections of 'cards,' each of which act like single-function applications in a form-based, desktop-like environment. The data fields in cards can be used like cells in a spreadsheet and can contain either data or an expression that determines the data at run time. Cards can also run other cards; this capability provides the basic flow control necessary for programming concepts such as decision branching, sequences, and loops."

JAPISoft has released version 4.1 of EditiX their swing based XML editor and XSLT debugger. They write in, "This release enhances the DTD usage and fixes various problems inside the user interface or inside the XML part. Thus the XPath evaluation works with unicode, the error number is shown in the statusbar and the user can access to individual one clicking on it. XSLT 2.0 is improved too for the displayed error."

The Echo2 web application framework project has released version 2.0.beta4 with minor feature enhancements. "This release adds support for a few missing rendering behaviors, such as vertically-oriented Grids and rollover/pressed images for ToggleButton state icons. A new test application, the 'Thousand Monkeys Test', rapidly pushes random hierarchies of components from server to client to torture-test client-side JavaScript code. Support was added for automatic gzip compression and whitespace/comment-removal of JavaScript code."
