The ObjectWeb Consortium has announced that it will begin hosting Celtix, IONA Technology's Java Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) project. "As a member of the ObjectWeb consortium, IONA will introduce an open source Java ESB that delivers the core functionality required to begin deploying SOA in the enterprise. Part of that core functionality in Celtix will be support for the recently introduced Java Business Integration (JBI) specification developed within the Java Community Process (JCP). JBI defines a standard container in which components from multiple vendors and various integration technologies can interact, significantly increasing end user choice, flexibility and extensibility while at the same time allowing them to avoid vendor lock-in and lower total cost of ownership."

Ed Burns has announced that the JavaServer Faces project has defined its licensing terms under the Java Distribution License (JDL (.pdf)). "It is now possible to electronically accept the JavaServer Faces JDL and produce official, compliant implementations of JavaServer Faces technology. The JDL also covers fee-based access to the JavaServer Faces TCK."

Sun Microsystems has announced the Sun Service Registry to address SOA governance. "Sun Microsystems, Inc. today announced the early access availability of the Sun Service Registry for customers who need to track and manage increasing numbers of web services. Sun's Service Registry also includes an integrated repository for storing service metadata, and providing additional capabilities such as web services lifecycle management. The combined registry-repository serves as a cornerstone for true service oriented architecture (SOA) governance."

jMethods, Inc. has released version 4.0 of JFTP, their secure, graphical FTP client for Java. They write in, "Version 4.0 has several new features and enhancements: 1. Open, edit, print and e-mail local and/or remote files using associated applications. Thanks to the JDIC (Java Desktop Integration Components) team for making this a reality in Java based applications. 2. Added support for Drag & Drop to transfer files betweeen local and remote systems. 3. Automatic compression and uncompression when transferring files. 4. Enhanced local and remote file filters to define inclusion or exclusion filters. 5. Added 'Upload As' and 'Download As' options. 6. Updated German and Traditional Chinese language files."

Sleepycat Software has announced the release of version 2.0 of their Berkeley DB Java Edition. "New features in Berkeley DB Java Edition version 2.0 include: J2EE standards support -- J2EE Connector Architecture (JCA), Java Transaction API (JTA) and Java Management Extensions (JMX); sequences; improved memory management and footprint; significant improvements to performance and scalability."

The termiit.com team has announced a Technology Preview of their new build-management CASE tool - Termiit, and launched their Termiit Early Access Program (EAP). They write in, "Main features: Every build represented as 'a set of continuously transforming data-flows' not as a set of shell scripts\programs linked via environment variables (execution paths). The build definition is quite close to the process definition in IDEF 1.x methodology, 100% reusable builds, and a visual build editor, supported tasks(targets): CVS - ssh... Please note, this release aimed to prove and tune our new conception of build management and not intended for production use."

Final Approval &amp Release: JSR 170 - Content Repository for Java technology API   20 Jun 2005 04:00 GMT
David Nuescheler of Day Software has made the final release of JSR 170 - Content Repository for Java technology API - to the JCP passing its final approval ballot. "This API proposes that content repositories have a dedicated, standard way of interaction with applications that deal with content. This API will focus on transactional read/write access, binary content (stream operations), textual content, full-text searching, filtering, observation, versioning, handling of hard and soft structured content."
