The JOnAS application server project has released its 4.4.2 Release Candidate. The development team call this a new major release citing a long lost of enhancements to the package including domain management, a new "Discovery" service, automatic generation of container classes, new protocols, new versions of common components (JORAM, JOTM, etc), firewall support, clustering, and more.

The SwingWT project, an implementation of Swing and AWT for SWT, has released version 0.87 to address some major bugs. "This release added improvements to JFileChooser and a DefaultTreeCellEditor implementation. Many Mac OS X bugs and broken AWT wrappers were fixed, many compatibility methods were added, and font support was massively improved."

JSR 242 - Digital Set Top Box Profile - "On Ramp to OCAP" has passed its review ballot by the JCP. "The requested specification will define a Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) profile based on the Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) appropriate for use by small-footprint, cable television set top boxes. The profile will consist of Java 2 APIs for I/O, networking, graphics, etc. appropriate for small-footprint cable television set top boxes and a subset of the Java TV API appropriate for such devices."

The JBoss Group has announced the release of version 1.0 alpha 1 of their jBPM BPEL extension. "We just released jBPM BPEL extension 1.0 alpha 1. This product brings jBPM into the arena of standards-based enterprise application integration. Also, it adds value to the Web services stack of JBoss by enabling a developer to assemble individual services into a process flow. These concepts will be particularly appealing to those interested in implementing service-oriented architecture using JBoss as middleware platform."
