The Apache Axis2 development team has announced the release of their second milestone. "This milestone release has the following features: AXIOM, a SOAP specific streaming XML infoset model for SOAP 1.1 & 1.2 Messages; Modules, the mechanism for extending the SOAP processing model; support for WS-Addressing (as a module); support for one-way messaging; support for request response messaging", and more.

Apple has announced the release of version 2.1 of tool suite and IDE Xcode. Major new features include the ability to create binaries for PowerPC or 'Intel-based' Macs, new project file format, improved dependency analysis, ability to do unit testing, and more. It also defaults to gcc 4.0 for compiling.

Beck et al projects has released gui4j as open source. Gui4j is a framework for Java to describe graphical user interfaces using XML. During runtime, the framework reads the XML descriptions and generates the corresponding Graphical User Interface using the standard Swing library.

Tortuga Technologies has released version 2.3 of Ozibug, their web-based bug tracking system. They write in, "This release focuses on the introduction of an incoming mail gateway and new configuration options to enable the automatic creation of bugs from mail submitted to an external mail source."

The OpenReports project has released their ObjectVisualizer project under open source/free software license the GPL. "ObjectVisualizer is an open source business intelligence tool that builds upon Object Persistence technology to provide easy to use query, reporting, and charting capabilities. David Flanagan has announced the 1.0 release of his javadoc alternative Jude. "After years and years of development, I've finally released version 1.00 of Jude. Jude is an alternative to javadoc. It displays definitive API documentation from documentation comments in Java source code. But its output is easier to browse than javadoc, it is better looking than javadoc. And it is searchable. And customizable. Want to see methods listed alphabetically? Jude does that. Want them grouped functionally instead? A single keystroke will toggle between these two views!"

Macromedia has decided to join the Eclipse Foundation. "to make sure that it's reaching as many developers as possible, Macromedia also joined the open source tools group Eclipse Foundation, the open source Java tools group. 'The strategy of joining Eclipse is significant,' said Peter O'Kelley, analyst with tech research firm Burton Group. 'This means the capabilities inside flash will be available to developers without requiring them to move to a different tool to work with it.'"
