The JINI project has opened a starterkit project enabling the release of JINI under a new Apache 2.0 license. "The starter kit contains contributed implementations from Sun Microsystems of Jini technology infrastructure services, supporting helper classes, and other services including JavaSpaces technology. The starter kit will help get you started developing with Jini technology, as well as assist your advanced development and deployment of Jini technology-enabled solutions."

IBM's alphaWorks has released a preliminary alpha version of its History Flow Visualization Application. It's purpose is to display how collaboratively created documents evolve. The application includes online help, as well as a plug-in for retrieving the history of a given page from any MoinMoin wiki.

The ObjectWeb consortium has announced the release of database clustering middleware C-JDBC 1.2. "Thanks to the contribution of Jean-Bernard Van Zuylen, we now have support for Updatable ResultSets. New pass-through schedulers have been added for all RAIDb levels for increased performance. The DatabaseMetaData code has been refactored to provide more transparency with regard to the underlying database engine. A number of other contributions have helped in various area for developer documentation, code cleaning and bug fixes... We strongly recommend that all users upgrade to C-JDBC 1.2."

MySQL Releases Fix for 10 Years of Criticism: 5.0 Beta   31 Mar 2005 05:00 GMT
Popular open source database project MySQL says it has addressed 10 years of criticism in its latest beta release. "David Axmark, a co-founder of MySQL, told ZDNet UK that all the enterprise functionality that MySQL has lacked in the past have been added to MySQL 5.0. 'People have been criticising MySQL since we started [in 1995] for not having stored procedures, triggers and views,' said Axmark. 'We're fixing 10 years of criticism in one release... It's the most important release we've ever done in the company,' Axmark added."

Jayasoft has released version 0.8 of their dependency management application Ivy. "this version is a major update compared to version 0.7, and contains several API breaks. Ivy files and configuration are compatible, but this is not the case of Ivy Java API. Some defaults changes also, especially default resolver which is no longer ibiblio but ivyrep (but ivyrep is compatible with ibiblio, so it should no break your builds)." JFImagine has announced the releaes of version 1.60 of JFDraw. They write in, "Our project, Java Swing based vector drawing tool, JFDraw has its international version now. Smardec has announced the release of version 1.0 of MirrorJNDI. "MirrorJNDI is an open source (GPL) Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) service provider for accessing arbitrary Java objects in a hierarchical namespace. MirrorJNDI can store all it's data in XML or binary serialized form. It allows to create full copy of existing service provider's data, serialize it and then work with local copy."
