I saw the the monster thread in this group comparing the performance of
a single library function between C++ and Java and it gave me an idea.
In an earlier discussion in this newsgroup we discussed the fact that

I read that if a webpage contains several java applets, for each of
the applets an individual JVM is launched.
I have eight (or even more to come) identical applets in one page that
display some status information. This information is updated with the

I'm using my own editor and am working mostly shell based.
Currently I'm using Firefox and http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/
for browsing the java documentation.

Charset.availableCharsets() returns a lot of charsets (additionally it
returns windows-1257=windows-1257).
But why it doesn't contains Charset.defaultCharset(), that is
windows-1257-110-84? I think default charset name should be from the

my applet runs nicely as stand alone application,
but when I start it in a browser, the VM gets stuck

I am having a problem using a hashset for user defined objects.
Identical objects are not being recognized as identical.
