Unable to install Eclipse plugins?

Thread view:
John - 05 Oct 2004 15:17 GMT
Just installed Eclipse 3.0.1 (build 200409161125) - all seems okay.
Then tried to some install plugins but Eclipse just seems to ignore
them! (net.sourceforge.eclipseccase_1.0.0.M3.zip & com.ibm.dptk.zip).
To install, all I did was to unzip them into the eclipse
pluging-feature directory. The Eclipse 'software updates' does nto
seem to have a means of installing from a zip file if its not a 'site'
file, I thought older eclipse could load from a zip file off the file
system?

Whats more confusing is that I understand that com.ibm.dptk.zip, is a
Eclipse 2.1 plugin, If I import this into workspace as a PDE project;
do the PDE Tools -> migrate to 3.0; Then open the Pluging manifest
editor on its plugin.xml file; and then final 'launch a runtime
workbench' from within the editor, then this results in a new
workspace window where ALL the plugins work as expected. Its as if
there was a flag 'dont install new plugins'.

can anybody throw some light on the situation?
Thanks John

Isnt it always the case just after you do a post you figure it out!
Looks like I was trying to do the impossible. The configuration was
technically illegal I needed to be running 2.1 not 3.0
