eclipse & j2sdk versions

Thread view:
EnKan - 01 Mar 2004 18:25 GMT
Hi All,

Can someone please tell me if eclipse 2.1 is compatible with
j2sdk1.4.2_03 ?
I seem to be running into weird file save errors, among other things,
since I migrated from j2sdk1.4.2-beta (windows) to j2sdk1.4.2_03 !

Also, is there a way to pick and choose the various download options
available at the eclipse download page so I could avoid downloading
the entire eclipse-SDK-3.0M7-win32.zip (~82mb) ? I just need basic
Java IDE functionality including the debugging facility.

TIA

    I was using j2sdk1.4.2_03-b02 with eclipse 2.1.2 (using 3.0
now); I can't say that I saw any strange problems.  What is in your
.log file?  Check the mail/newsgroup archives on eclipse.org to see if
the problem has been reported there.
As for downloads, the minimum you need is the Platform Runtime
Binary and the JDT Runtime Binary.  By the time you download the jdk
and documentation from Sun, you're looking at a nice chunk of disk
space for Java development.

Joe,
Thanks a million - you saved me from having to download nearly ~45mb
worth of stuff that I may hardly need. I downloaded just the JDT and
PRB (total of ~35mb) and IDE functionalities that I routinely need
seem to be all there.

As for the compatibility problem that I mentioned above, I don't know
exactly what it is: every time I closed eclipse, I kept getting a
message to the effect "could not save workspace". Apart from that, the
(J)Tree also refused to display the expand buttons. Something probably
to do with the fact that I had also set up the Tiger version in
conjunction j2sdk1.4.2_03, may be ??? Right now I've uninstalled
Tiger, and may probably try to give it a shot with eclipse3.0 - not
for using it with eclipse, but simply for other standalone use.

Thanks very much indeed !
