Tools for mobile phone application development

Thread view:
Grga - 26 Nov 2007 19:31 GMT
Hello,

first of all let me apologize if this is an off-topic post on this group. It
looked like the best choice from the groups I could find on my news server.
I want to develop a very simple java application for my mobile phone. The
problem is that I never worked with any kind of Java before so I feel a bit
lost when I try to find some useful information. I'm more than familiar with
derivations of C and object oriented paradigm (I work with it every day) so
I hope a simple Java application won't be a problem. What troubles is that I
don't know what tools to use. Please recommend some useful tools for
developing mobile Java application. Thank you...

comp.lang.java.help is excellent for beginners to ask question specific
to code they have.

comp.lang.java.programmer is usually for more advanced topics.

In both there is a FAQ ("what they're for") being posted periodically,
have a look at it for further explanation.

In both, posting a compilable (short) example of your problem code
helps.

You should start with Suns own Java tutorial (which you can download for
easy access) at
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/

Later you can have a look at "Sun Mobile Device Technology at a glance"
http://developers.sun.com/mobility/

As for tools, I would suggest NetBeans (it's what I use), others would
say Eclipse or even JBuilder (I'm sure there's more). It's up to your
resources and preferences.

When you start your first project, keep reading relevant JavaDocs so you
get used to them aswell.

Best wishes,
