RFD: comp.infosystems.www.webobjects

Thread view:
Ed Powell - 10 Oct 2003 01:11 GMT
                    REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
         unmoderated group comp.infosystems.www.webobjects

This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of a
world-wide unmoderated Usenet newsgroup comp.sys.mac.webobjects.  This
is not a Call for Votes (CFV); you cannot vote at this time.
Procedural details are below.

CHANGES from previous RFD:
Changed proposed name from comp.sys.mac.webobjects
Removed webobjects-announce@lists.apple.com from the distribution list
Removed comp.lang.java.announce from the distribution list
Removed comp.sys.mac.announce from the distribution list

Newsgroup line:
comp.infosystems.www.webobjects    Developing for and administrating
Apple WebObjects

RATIONALE: comp.infosystems.www.webobjects

Often called Apple's best-kept secret, WebObjects is a Java-based
platform for
developing web applications. It provides an integrated environment for
quickly
and easily developing dynamic websites, and is robust and scalable
enough for
high traffic use.

A common ground is needed for discussion of development and
administration
issues for those that develop for and run WebObjects applications.
Apple used
to run a web-based bulletin board for Webobjects discussion, but has
shut
those down and replaced them with three seperate mailing lists which
have a
combined posting rate of near 40 messages a day.  The creation of a
newsgroup
would give discussions more 'breathing space', and also give other
Webobjects
users who are not aware of the mailing lists (or do not care for mailing
lists) a forum for discussion.

CHARTER: comp.infosystems.www.webobjects

This newsgroup is for the discussion of Apple WebObjects, including but
not
limited to: the sharing of ideas, thoughts, and knowledge in developing
for
or administrating the WebObjects platform; the announcement of new
applications, plugins, extensions, or code fragments for WebObjects;
discussion of WebObjects products and updates released by Apple; and
any other
topic pertaining to WebObjects.

END CHARTER.

PROCEDURE:

This is a request for discussion, not a call for votes.  In this phase
of the process, any potential problems with the proposed newsgroups
should be raised and resolved.  The discussion period will continue
for a minimum of 21 days (starting from when the first RFD for this
proposal is posted to news.announce.newgroups), after which a Call For
Votes (CFV) may be posted by a neutral vote taker if the discussion
warrants it.  Please do not attempt to vote until this happens.

All discussion of this proposal should be posted to news.groups.

This RFD attempts to comply fully with the Usenet newsgroup creation
guidelines outlined in "How to Create a New Usenet Newsgroup" and "How
to Format and Submit a New Group Proposal".  Please refer to these
documents (available in news.announce.newgroups) if you have any
questions about the process.

DISTRIBUTION:

This RFD has been posted to the following newsgroups:

 news.announce.newgroups, news.groups,
 comp.lang.java.advocacy, comp.lang.java.softwaretools,
 comp.sys.mac.advocacy, comp.sys.mac.programmer.tools,

and to the following mailing lists:

 webobjects-dev@lists.apple.com,
 webobjects-deploy@lists.apple.com

I hope the formatting didn't get utterly mangled for anyone else.  I need to find a new newsreader.
