hi all :-),
now that i have started to work on my own ideas/projects instead of
softwere companies i am looking for a good simple free source control
...
after installing the winCVS how do i set it up ?? to be able to start
working it.
all the setup tutorials that i were out off date....
if anyone has a source control, feel free to recommend ....

I would highly recommend you use Subversion. "The goal of the Subversion
project is to build a version control system that is a compelling
replacement for CVS in the open source community. The software is
released under an Apache/BSD-style open source license." It intigrates
into Eclipse and Netbeans:

Do you have a CVS server or just the client? You will need both (you can
run both on the same machine).

CVS is OK, but I would second IchBin's recommendation to use Subversion.
It is similar to CVS but addresses most of CVS's problems and is rapidly
becoming the de facto standard.
Beyond that, any version control system that is not called "Microsoft
Visual SourceSafe" should do a decent job.
