installing C++ compiler in Eclipse 3.1.2, windows

Thread view:

Hi folks, I am a student and pretty new to the Eclipse IDE.
I downloaded and installed Eclipse 3.1.2 in my Windows XP machine.
Because my primary interest in coding in C++, i performed online
installation of CDT 3.0.2 from a remote site.

I installed Cygwin, but it did not include GCC by default. I tried
reinstalling it but no avail. I am not able to get the Cygwin
installation screen on my computer.

I then installed MinGW and modified the "path" variable to include both
  C:\cygwin\bin and
  C:\MinGW\bin

Since some of the Unix commands included in cygwin\bin and MinGW\bin
execute perfectly on the command prompt, i guess the installation is
proper.
However when i write a C++ Managed make application, the project does
not "build" (Ctrl-B). More over, when i try running the file as a C++
Application, the following error message is displayed:
                         "LAUNCH FAILED NO BINARIES"

If by binaries it means the g++.exe files then i have put them in the
C:\MinGW\bin folder, I have tried Googling but coulnd get anything
concrete.
Pls guide.

Thanks,

Cygwin does not install the development tools by default, but it is easy
to get it to install them. After you choose your mirror(s) it brings up
the screen to select what you want installed.

This screen is the most complicated part of Cygwin set up. It will show
you a tree with All and subcategories like Admin, Archive, Audio, etc.
Each of these has a little circular arrow symbol and a word like
Default. If you click on this word it will cycle between default,
install, reinstall, and uninstall.

The easiest way to get the devel tools is to change the Devel category
to install and hit next. Or you can change All to install and you will
get every cygwin package.

Thanks Dale,
I tried that, installed everything fine, but there is some linking
error ( something related to  "crt2.o") Since time was critical, i gave
it up for the timebeing and am currently using MS visual studio. :-?

Cool, so you have some time now. Go to Eclipse and ask same questions in

eclipse.tools.cdt

You will need a free password but you can get that at
