Hello all,
I'm new to using Eclipse, and I can't seem to find the basic text
search feature. I'd like to search for a text string in every file in
a workspace. If I use the basic 'find', it seems like it can find text
strings, but only in the file that is currently open. If I use the
'search' option, it seems like I can't look for generic text strings
because I'm limited by the 'search for' radio buttons.
I imagine that I'm just doing something stupid. Can anybody point me
to the right thing?
Thanks,
Ben

I am a big Eclipse user but I use a free program called, "Agent
Ransack". this is a Freeware 'lite' version of the professional file
searching software "FileLocator Pro". I am so empress by its speed and
functionality. I just point to the Eclipse workspace and magic it
returns every reference either java or class file. Has a standard front
end GUI.
If this is the 'Lite' version I can not imagine what the "FileLocator
Pro" will do. One of the better free products I have found.
Check it out: http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/

In Eclipse 3.0.1: Menu Search -> File
[I guess you were referring to 'Java Search' (menu Search -> Java),
which allows you to find Java items (methods/classes/etc). The 'Java
Search' is only one tab on the search dialog, the 'File' tab allows you
to search strings in files.]
