Problems getting Eclipse plugins to work

Thread view:
leue@crd.ge.com - 11 Jan 2005 16:06 GMT
Hi, I have recently installed Eclipse 3.0.1 on my Windows XP SP 2
system. The basic Eclipse platform runs fine, at least for Java
development.

I installed GEF 3.0.1, EMF 2.0.1, and Visual Edit (VE) 1.0.1. My
problem is that I can't get the VE editor to appear in a perspective or
view. I have played around with all the perspective properties for
Java, but VE does not show up. I looked at all the files that got
installed for these plugins, and they seem to have gotten unpacked
properly and are in the right locations.
Any idea what I am missing?

Thanks!

Whoops, previous reply seems to have screwed up.

Anyways, the VE does not have its own perspective, it functions within
the Java perspective.  To start using the VE, simply create a new
Visual Class, or open an existing java file by performing Open
With->Visual Editor.

For further questions on the Visual Editor, please followup to the
newsgroup eclipse.tools.ve on news.eclipse.org.

Good luck!

Hmm. Ok, I choose 'Open With->Visual Editor' from the popup menu in the
Navigator panel. However, nothing looks any different from the normal
Java editory. Isn't there supposed to be a set of GUI icons that let
you drag and drop widgets into a frame, move them around, edit
properties, etc., (as in JBuilder)?

Thanks,
-Bill
