search for a lightweight UML Eclipse Plugin

Thread view:
Tobias Giese - 22 Nov 2004 16:37 GMT
For my company i do an UML-Tool evaluation. It should be an eclipse plugin
and also support XMI Im-/Export (because we have Rose-Models to import).

This is my list for the evaluation-process:

-Omondo EclipseUML Studio
-No Magic MagicDraw UML
-Borland Together Eclipse Plugin
-Visual Paradigm SDE
-Metanology MDE for UML

After testing all tools, i had to recognize that no tool will fit our
modeling guidelines.
Are there any other tools, i should look at? Actually we use Rational Rose
2002 for modeling, but its to heavyweight and not easy to use. I'm looking
for a lightweight UML-tool which is easy to customize and also fast. Rose
isn't it.

Anybody know a nice UML-tool which i have overlooked ?
(please cut the trees so i can see the forest)

Thank you.

Does Poseidon have an Eclipse Plug-In?

Perhaps it might be an idea to take a look at the Open-Source-Tool
Fujaba:

AFAIK there are some plans to integrate it into Eclipse but currently
it's a stand alone application.

Does that really fit the subject "lightweight"?  As far as I remember it's
rather heavyweight...

Define lightweight and heavywight :-).

It doesn't support all diagram types, if doesn't have a full blown
editor and other IDE functionality and the binary is only about a
megabyte, so I say its rather lightweight compared to those several tens
of megabyte full-blown apps like Rose or Together.

Hm, the version I have seen had all this - but probably project changed
directions in between.  It's been some time since I saw Fujaba last.

Well, you're welcome to take another look :-). Perhaps I missed some of
the diagrams but still I think it's not as big as Rose or Together and
its free.

"Guten Rutsch" :-)
