HELP PLEASE

Thread view:
X_Squad_101@yahoo.com - 14 Jan 2007 20:31 GMT
HELP PLEASE... Im looking for help with my site, xquad. I need quiet a
few moderators before the site lauches January 27th. Im posting the
request on this group because this is a java group and the site is java
related. Let me explain the site first and then explain what Im looking
for.

Xquad is similar to an open source project site, but much much
different too. Usually at open source sites like sourceforge you list
your project and maybey 3 or 4 people sign up to help. Many times, the
project isnt even active for long blocks of time at once. Well, Xquad
can change that. Xquad is one team and many projects(Other than many
projects and many small teams). The idea is that Xquad will take on 4
projects at a time with people submiting their project request to be
considered and added to the upcomming projects lists. Once the project
is active(only 4 active projects at a time), then the project gets
broken down into many simple tasks that gets divided up among many
sections like input, processing and output, ect. When the task, which
do a small job, gets finished, a different section puts togheter all
the smaller sourcecodes togheter and make up the final version. This
method is so much better than the other one because it takes maybe a
few weeks to finish a small project rather than many weeks, or even
months.

Okey, enough about the site. What im looking for are moderators that
have an intermediate knowledge in Java and can come help out at the
site at least for a 30 minutes each day. Im looking for the moderators
this early because i want to have a good number of topics in the forums
before the site actully opens to the public. The moderators will also
be responsible for checking if the source code submitted by the people
as an answer to a task will actuall work. They will also have to do a
lot of tranfering and reposting. What i mean is that for example, if
the output section relies on graphics to get a job done, they have to
copy and paste the answer to the task in the graphics section into
their own section to go with the task. The moderators will work with
one another to report on progress and ask for help. There are a lot
more stuff for them to do like being in charge on adverising, site
design, sorting through the all the project requests and much more. The
role of a Moderator is a well respected one, and you can be sure that
you would always have something to do. You can view the current site at

http://xquad.forumer.com

If you would like to be one of the moderators, just post a reply in
your introduction in the general topics section. Thank you for your
time reading this post(i know its long...but well i got a lot to say.)
and I look forward to working with you!

Oh, and please post your comments about this idea too. If you dont want
to be a moderator, but still want to join in on this, feell free to
still come to the site and sign up. if the site address isnt easy to
remember(ya, please dont type www, because it wont work) please add the
site to your favorites

When I saw you clueless, YELLING, off-topic post that
was probably spam on c.l.j.gui, I did 'nice thing' and
decided to let it slide simply becasue you seem so
pathetic.

Now you have mulit-posted across three groups,
so I will respond* by saying.

(Please) cease and desist on your multi-posting.

(X-post to c.l.j.p./g./h., w/ f-u to c.l.j.h. only)

* I still did not bother reading them in detail.

Your whining for "HELP" when you are clearly advertising, not requesting help,
calls your integrity into question. Your lack of netiquette, unbecoming
begging, and general unprofessional presentation are not good press for your
site, or product, or whatever nonsense you're pitching. Try acting like a
professional if you want professionals to take you seriously.

I for one give you no credence whatsoever. I have not looked at your
putatively puerile site, nor shall I.

Well im not much of a professional at this. I am seriously asking for
help because i do need quiet a few moderators to help me run the site.
Im definetly not advertising because if you did see the site, you can
say that its a serious mess right now, so theres no reason for me to be
advertising. Rather than yelling at me and wasting your time, please
offer me some tips to be as you  say "Professional". I would be glad to
listen to you man. Dont be so bad tempered. I only multi-posted to get
at least your attension. Hey, it worked! But if you say so, ill stop
mulitposting when i actually lauch the site. I'll just post up stuff on
one site. Satisfied? Now what else do i have to do to get you to at
least read my whole post and consider my offer??? Tell me, cause if i
can, i would try to change to make the posts and the forum pleasing to
everyone(even all those prefectionalist "Professionals")

You can cross-post instead of multiposting - that is, in the same message (not
independent copies) list multiple newsgroup targets, but not too many. It is
often good practice to set one of those groups as the "Follow-up", so that
many threads will be read, but only one answered.

Find a more specific title than "HELP PLEASE". The vagueness and use of
all-capital "shouting" makes your message look like one of the many, many spam
posts that the newsgroup receives.

Be more specific in the body of your post. The one quoted herein is the first
where you specify that your site is a "mess right now", thus inducing a sense
of sympathy on newsgroup participants to offer assistance.

Don't take harsh responses seriously. You have to realize that there are many
who abuse the group, and their messages tend to have vague, all-caps subject
lines and vague promises in the body, along with a notable lack of detail
about why we the readers should care. When such spammers bother to respond to
the group, they usually do so in aggrieved tones as if somehow entitled to
fair treatment, which no one here is, really, let alone special treatment.

Asking someone to "moderate" a site is asking for a major commitment; given
the noise factor on Usenet many people will be reticent to offer such a
commitment just on someone whining for it.

To avoid being tarred with such a brush, simply give calm, specific subject
lines like, "My site is a mess - please view and comment", with details in the
message body explaining what sort of trouble you're having, what you've tried
so far, and exactly what sort of assistance you request. People here tend to
respond positively to such an approach.

Good luck with your effort.

Try using a spell-checker and grammar-checker. Your writing is horrible. If
English is your first language, you've had horrible teachers who should be
ashamed of themselves. You especially need to review the difference between
non-words like "im" and "I'm" or "dont" and "don't" or "perfectionalist" and
"perfectionist".  Horrible spelling is not very professional.

lol my cheeks are aching after reading this thread. Seriously has he
found a moderator, yet? I mean come on, he had a complete essay for
this group, all he gets back is two lines of reply.

Cheers,

I might have missed this in the original (long) post, but how much is
he paying the moderators? I might be interested if the pay is
reasonable.

Well, let me reply to all your posts in this one answer.
- Yes english is a second language for me( actually, its the 4th
language for me..., im working on spanish as my 5th)
- No, no one has actually replied to my request even when I took the
time to write such an extended message to try to cover everything about
the forum. Right now, its just me talking to myself in the forum.
Someone will think im crazy!
- Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm not completley clear about the
different types of posting thing, but anyway, I'll try to start the
whole thing over. Im gona take things much slower and professional this
time. I'm working on a site to go with the forum
(You can expect to see me in one of the site building groups now!, but
I'll be back)
- Once again, thanks for all the help. If any of you are willing to
help out(even one person would be a lot of help) please contact me.
