Changing albums in a slide show...

Thread view:
Leif902 - 09 Nov 2006 19:59 GMT
Hi, I'm not very good at Java myself (i'm a C++ kind of guy, don't do
much with web languages) but I do most of my own scripting for the very
simple site I run at http://www.greenmangames.vze.com.
I've been having a problem with my graphics page however (it is not
online, I'm using a temporary page in the meantime). I have a java
script running to show pictures (the same that can be found on the
current page at http://graphics.greenmangames.vze.com if you would like
to see it). I have put it in a DIV and am using a script to change the
html inside the div when I click a link to change albums. So when I
click a link a little function I wrote is called, and the HTML in the
div is changed so that the album name is a different array of pictures
(see the script on the current page to see what i mean, but it dosn't
really matter). However, my image slide show disspears when i do this
and the new one does not show up... What am I doing wrong? (I wasn't
sure if i should post the whole long script, so if you need it just
contact me here and i'll send it to you)... Sorry if this is vauge, but
i don't know anything about java really, i just dable in it, and don't
know what other info to give.

Typical.  A C++ guy who can't distinguish between Java
and JavaScript.  Try com.lang.javascript

Well pardon me, i knew there was a difference, but not what it is.
Perhapse you'd care to enlighten me instead of just referring me
somewhere else for my question? Is java compiled while java script is
not? I duno... Thanks though, i'll try that one and sorry for the
ignorant post, like i said, i just dable in the language, i don't
really know any.

You wouldn't automatically think that "Oak" and "Livescript" were the
same thing. Oak got renamed Java. IMHO Netscape did the world a
disservice by renaming Livescript to Javascript.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javascript says
"Despite the name, JavaScript is only distantly related to the Java
programming language, the main similarity being their common debt to the
C syntax. Semantically, JavaScript has far more in common with the Self
programming language and ActionScript which is another ECMAScript."

So no, they are two completely different languages. Posting a Javscript
question in a Java newsgroup is almost like posting a VBscript question
to a C++ newsgroup.
