I am looking for comments on java certifiaction training through sun.
I am a good developer with a B.S in computer science and 15+
years of development with alot of C++ and some Java.
I am wondering if I should consider Java certification through sun ?
They don't list the price on the website or in the catalogue, and I
am wondering if the classes have actual programming assignments which
is an approach I would prefer, but I suspect they may not. An approach
I often take is buy some books
and come up with my own programming projects to try to learn new
things. I am not sure
if that would look as good as a certification on my resume however ...

If you want to take a SCJP (Sun Certified Java Programmer). It will
cost you $150 US Dollars.
You can buy a Java Certification book and read. Be sure to practice
some mock exams that are available on the Internet. You can Google
them.
You can find full details about SCJP on Sun site:
http://www.sun.com/training/certification/java/java_progj2se.html
Best of Luck!

There are good books that guide you through the Sun Certified Java
Programmer and Sun Certified Java Developer program.
I recommend the Head First series, I also liked the one from Sierra & Bates.
www.suned.sun.com lists everything you need to know about sun
certifications.
