I did notice a nice improvement to Eclipse with 1GB RAM.  Still, it
shouldn't be all that slow.  Have you tried installing looking at a task
monitoring app (http://www.iarsn.com/taskinfo.html works well) to
determine what's causing the performance issues?

Someone else just had the same complaints. Can't remember which forum it
was in but someone suggest to pass some performance parameters to
Eclipse on startup. Naturally it was for that persons environment so you
may have to change it a little for your environment. He recommend the
following for Eclipse..

 -vmargs -Xverify:none -XX:+UseParallelGC -XX:PermSize=20M
-XX:MaxNewSize=32M -XX:NewSize=32M -Xms128M -Xmx256M
