Help - Any browser crashes with Java plug in when using parameters

Thread view:

When ever I try to load java applet I, the plug in works fine unless I
specify any runtime parameters.  Then as soon as I try to start up an
applet the browser will shut down right away with no warning or error
messages.

I've tried both 1.3.1_13 and 1.4.2_06 with both Internet Explorer 6 and
Firefox.

I thought maybe it was a Windows patch or something but can't find any
info on that.  This happens both on a Windows 2000 and XP SP1 machine.

those are both fairly ancient Java's. Try 1.5.0_06.

Also make sure your browsers are up to date.  Firefox is 1.5.

Now, is it just YOUR applet that has trouble or all applets?

See http://mindprod.com/applets/amanuenses.html
to try out some of mine.

If just yours, for an start post the HTML you use to invoke it.

You need to show us how you are passing the parameters into the applet, and how
the applet is attempting to read them. Whilst it's easy enough to access the
parameters incorrectly in the applet, causing NullPointerException, I've never
seen an error causing the browser to shut down.

It's very unlikely that a Windows patch will have any effect on either Java or
Firefox. Are you absolutely certain the the correct plugin is being used?
