Webpage shows java box but never starts

After switching computers and doing a fresh Win XP install on the new
one, including IE 6.0.29 and Java 1.5.0, I noticed lots of problems
viewing the old web pages with heavy java applications that I used to
be able to view without the slightest problem with the other computer.

I can see most of the java pages, but lots of times I have to go back
(ALT+left arrow) and reload the page once for it to start. Other times
it shows that box with the coffee on it, and it just never does
anything. One address that used to load without a problem before, but
now never ever works is:

http://futures.tradingcharts.com/menu.html

Click any of the "daily" links from the web page above, and then, in
the middle of the screen, click the right box which says "Display Java
Chart". It will open a new page with a big empty java box in the
middle. It has the coffee mug, and the progress bar below it is empty
(though I think a few times it was completely filled and yet nothing
happened). Meanwhile at the bottom of the screen it says
"miniapplication ascroll2 started". I searched for this "ascroll2" term
on the internet and it doesn't exist.
