JRE 1.5 Installation Error

Thread view:
pwc - 29 Apr 2005 07:50 GMT
When I attempted to update the JRE from 1.3.1 to 1.5 on my Win XP
machine, the installer stalled midway through and I aborted it.  Now
when I try to reinstall 1.5, I get a J2SE Runtime Environment
Installation error stating that "You already have this version of the
JRE installed.  Please uninstall the product through the Add/Remove
Programs utility before reinstalling.  The only entry under Add/Remove
is for JRE 1.3.1.

How do I clean up the registry entries or other instances of the failed
install so that the reinstall will succeed?

Thanks in advance.

use regedit, delete the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft

If you want to be more delicate and tip-toe around, look at each subkey
and use your best judgement.
