icon display problem - XP

Thread view:
JO - 04 Apr 2005 15:52 GMT
I have a Java project that has failed to display application icons in
recent installations on XP. It works fine on all 2000 machines. It even
works properly on some XP installations and does not seem to be SP2
related.

The icons are functional; the icon label will display if you place the
cursor over the icon and if you click on the icon it will run properly.
The problem is that there are just black spaces where the icon should
appear. These icons are gif files. I've tried updating JRE with no
success.

I can't seem to isolate what is causing this problem. Any ideas out
there?

Could be some issue with DirectDraw drivers. See
<http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/relnotes.html#2d> and
<http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/2d/flags.html>.

Roland - thanks so much for the help. The problem was with a the ATI
video driver. It was resolved by using the campatibility tab and
running the application in 256 colors. Have a great day. John
