overpriced obfuscators

Thread view:

Hi, I am not realy interested in spending *thousands* (i.e. dash-o) (or even
$300 for that matter-something else) of dollars on a java bytecode
obfuscator.

And yet all the supposedly free ones don't work. For example, one called
'marvin' or something, seemed to work.. but the jar files wouldn't run even
after I added a new manifest. jmangle had a similar problem, and so did
javaguard. the jar files wouldnt run, but the original .jar files would work
just fine.

Don't I have any real choices here?

Hi,
have you tried Retrologic's RetroGuard or yWorks' yGuard - both
published under LGPL with yGuard being derived from RetroGuard.

Did you try Proguard (http://proguard.sourceforge.net)?

It seems to work pretty well, especially the more recent releases.  But
whichever one you choose you may have to play around with the
configuration to get it to work as intended with your project.

Dan.
