Java GUI a mess on Win98

Thread view:
Rune Johansen - 19 Mar 2004 01:16 GMT
Hi.

I'm having a problem that shows up in most java programs with a gui. The
problem is that certain gui elements become all muddy and messy when I
scroll up and down. An example image can be found here:
http://runevision.com/temp/javaguimess.gif

I have not experienced the problem on Windows 2000, but at home I'm
using Windows 98 and that's where the problem shows up, and makes using
java GUIs very challenging...

I'm using Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build
1.3.1-b24).

Have anybody experienced the same thing? Is there anything I can do to
avoid it?

Thanks in advance,

Rune

Make sure you have the latest video drivers for one thing,
but I don't think you can get rid of it entirely.

As I recall there was some Windoze bug to do with animated pointers. Make
sure you are not using animated pointers and see if that helps.

Just for the reference... I didn't do anything with my video drivers,
but it turns out that the problem has gone now that I've installed the
newer Java version 1.4.2.
