Do you care about blind access to Linux?

Hi everyone,
Recently Oracle has purchased Sun. One of the first things they did was
to lay off the Gnome accessibility leader as well as the Orca
development leader. Please tweet or blog or post to your myspace or
facebook pages. Let Oracle know this kind of total disrespect for
accessibility will not be accepted. I am sure that other companies are
watching this move to see how the blind community takes it. So, even if
you do not now and do not plan to use Linux or the Orca screen reader,
please join our cause. Even leaving a comment on blogs with posts on
this subject will help.  Here are a couple to read for more information:

There will also be something on my blog as soon as my rage subsides
enough to keep it G rated lol.
Thanks for your help in this matter

This is off topic in a Java newsgroup.

Of course it is, but a lot of people read here who care about fairness and
disability. Its not as off topic as the spam I often see or the rants that
occasionally appear from people whith their  mouthes in their rear ends.

silly grin.

Gon, complain about the top post, I dare ya!

I don't see how an attempt to enlist people's support is consistent with
an attempt to annoy them. Perhaps the former is simply a pretext for the
latter.

Bye.

Please do not top post?

Actually, I understand why you top post and we'll give you the s. 508
exemption for that.

So if others are breaking into electronics stores and stealing, that makes it
OK for you to rob a convenience store?

It is obvious from your hostile tone and arrogant egoism, combined with your
off-colorful imagery, that you are not here to elicit support or sympathy, so
you have shown that you aren't simply off topic but actively trolling.  Shame
on you.

I was going to ignore this, as being off-topic, but the spam/not-spam
argument seems to be keeping the thread alive anyway.

It is far too soon to jump to conclusions about the meaning of Oracle's
decisions. At the other extreme, it could mean that they think
accessibility is so very important that it needs unified decision making
across the combined company, and must be led by a manager who already
has the confidence of, and influence with, the Oracle leadership.

Consider another of Oracle's immediate decisions. I don't think Jonathan
Schwartz being "CEO no more" reflects any lack of respect for the CEO
role. It is far more likely to be due to a wish to unify strategic
decision making.

Whether Oracle's layoff decisions reflect respect or disrespect for
accessibility will only become apparent through future software releases.
