Can't load servlet from Tomcat from other machines

Thread view:

I am having a Tomcat issue.  I have a server running on my computer,
and I can browse to my servlets just as it is designed.  When I try
and access the servlets from other machines, however, the page fails
to load.  The failed load does not show up in the log files.  What
could the problem be?

I would really appreciate any help!  Thanks.

Also, I am running Tomcat 5.5.

Sorry, some more information needed ;-).

As far as is understand you can access your tomcat on localhost but
not
from any other machine in your network. Can you access the tomcat
admin page
from another machine ? Which error message is displayed in your
browser when you
try to access your local tomcat / servlets ?

best regards

Any restriction in config files? You can restrict the server to serve
ONLY localhost (or any other network mask)...

No, I can't get to any of the pages from other machines.  I get a
"Cannot find server" error from my browser.  It is not a tomcat error
message, rather that generic message that you would get whenever you
enter an incorrect web address.  I could not find any restrictions in
the config files.  I almost wonder if it is more of a problem with the
settings on my computer, rather then tomcat.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Can you ping the computers you're trying to reach? Can you connect to
any other services running on them (if any)?

I think I'm having a similar problem (Tomcat 5.5.20 won't serve pages
to machines other than localhost, and doesn't seem to store anything
in the log files). I can't ping my machine from a linux box on the
same network; I can't seem to telnet to ports 80 or 81 (Apache httpd
and IIS 5, respectively) from the same linux box to my machine; but an
FTP server I'm running on my machine IS reachable from the linux box.

My machine is running XP Pro with the Windows firewall turned off.  I
do have some anti-spyware and anti-virus products running, but I can't
see how they would interfere.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

I have solved my problem:  It was a windows firewall issue.  I simply
opened port 8080, and the issue was resolved.
