javaw.exe general

Hi all,

Sorry for the obtuse subject line; have what I hope is a simple question:

I have 6 copies of javaw.exe in various locations on my hard drive, one in a
zip and 3 in a java ...\bin folders.  Other two are for an HP Toolbox, which
gets loaded, and there's one in ...\system32 that doesn't get loaded.
The correct one for the HP toolbox IS the one being loaded.

EACH occurrence of javaw.exe is different DATE and a different SIZE from all
the others.

Question:  Is that "normal"?

I know zip about java at all and only got to this point because I'm having
problem with the loaded javaw.exe gong to 50% cpu time after awhile and
staying there.  XP has had me try many things, including a complete HP
printer uninstall/removal and reinstall.  All that accomplished was to
change the date to today's date on the javaw.exe overwrite during hte
install.

Details:
XP Pro, hyperthreaded P4, 512 RAM, 80/160 Gig, ext 160Gig drives,
no known viruses/malware per pre-runing updated Norton, Adaware, Spybot,
WinPatrol, ZA firewall, DSL firewall.  No log entries show any problem
entries.  Event Viewer shows no errors.
I do not have multiple java versions; only the latest, 10 I think it is.
Is it possible the various sized/dated javaw's are leftovers somehow from
past versions?  No idea.

Any and all relevant advice much appreciated.

TIA,
Pop`

Boy, I've never seen such a takeover of newsgroups by spammers as most of
the java groups!  Too bad; glad to see these two still reasonably populated.

It's not uncommon to have JREs from several different Java versions
installed at the same time.  It's almost certainly not causing your
problem with pegging the CPU.

???  I don't see any significant amount of spam in clj.help,
.programmer, .databases, .gui, or .machine.  The spam that does show up
is shared by all other newsgroups I subscribe to as well.  Perhaps
you're talking about the Microsoft group?  I don't read that one, and I
don't imagine much happens there any more.
