Excel file encryption in Java

Can I encrypt and decrypt an Excel and PDF file in Java using Cipher? I am
trying the same but after decryption the excel file is not opening up
properly. Please help

  Maybe you should start with the simple before proceeding to the
complex. Can you encrypt and decrypt an array of 16 bytes of zeros?
