JavaScript is a toy language. Java is a real one. JavaScript is a
scripting language. Java is a compiled language. JavaScript was
named itself to cause deliberate confusion with Java. Java is the
original.

When NetScape renamed LiveScript to JavaScript it was undoubtedly
to benefit from the Java name, but it was approved by Sun
(which is also why Sun owns the trademark for "JavaScript").

They are different languages for different purposes, with nothing more
in common than a syntax that both inherited from C and a similarity of
name.
Try Googling for "Javascript vs Java" and read one of the numerous
explanations.
