What's a good laptop in the $500 to $1000 range. I will be using it as
a portable so I would want something light. Please advise. Thank you.

Peace Gerry,

An uber cool functional laptop that's available these days is the Asus
EEE.  And, they're all sub $500 in costs.  Though, the processing
power in at just 800 Mhz, they are highly portable and very functional
with web cam, sd\mmc card reader, wireless lan, and regular lan card.
come with Linux and just damn cool in a wide range of colors and
limited configuration in terms of amount of ram and storage space that
it'll come with.  Battery life is 2.8 hours.  "At 7" and weighing only
2lbs, you can take the Eee PC anywhere."

2GB flash storage and 512 mb ram:

4GB flash storage and 512 mb ram:

8GB flash storage and 1GB ram(recommended model by me):

They're just too cool!  If you intend to develop on them, they may not
be your ideal solutions, but they're ultra portable and equally
functional.  If ya' get, let us know how you find 'em, sir...

In case those are far from what you're looking for, I'd recommend
another Asus machine that fits within your stipulated budget and is a
bit bigger and far more powerful:

And, as a final suggestion, another sleek, yet powerful 12" laptop
from HP:

Let me know if you looked at 'em and if you finally decided to get
one.  Maybe others on this forum would have better machines at better
prices to recommend???  Personally, I like Asus Laptops a LOT as I
find them VERY FEATURE PACKED and at the best prices.  Asus is the
great, big, ultra performer motherboard manufacturer, btw.  They've
got amongst the best high end motherboards to the market and
reliability is without question.

God Bless,

What's going on here? Is this a new trick? Like, ask an innocent,
off-topic question, then reply under a different name to make it look
like a real discussion just to reply under yet another name to drop a
big fat advertisement?

Now seriously, if this is some Asus scam, I am shocked and disgusted by
the perverse amorality that this world has declined to. I'm genuinely
sickened by this.

Then again, if you are an unrelated party, you really might want to tone
your enthusiasm down a bit; that was creepier than a caterpillar drunk
on WD-40.

I don't think so. The IP addresses are wildly different (different A
class numbers)

Ahh, you computer literates drive me nuts! Always with the better
arguments. You're possibly right. :)

BTW, I may now have an awesome idea to promote my new product ...
