That is up there with Marie Antoinette's misunderstanding of those
with less wealth.
There are thousands of obsolete text books cluttering the offices of
programmers that could be put to good use by students in the third
world. You don't need the latest version to learn.
Ideally there would be an organisation you could send them to who
would bulk ship them to save the huge mailing costs which exceed the
value of the texts.
Perhaps someone with some energy in North America and in various third
world countries could volunteer to do this. I have lots of texts to
donate. Perhaps some existing charity might take on the world of
distribution.
Plan Canada does something like this. You can ship gifts to children
in the third world to Toronto, then they bulk ship them to the third
world, possibly accompanied my a worker going there anyway, for
distribution. Otherwise the costs of shipping would be perhaps four
times the gift's value, and it could easily be stolen on the way
there.

I'm sure the school you study in has a library. They will lend you books
for free! Your local city probably has a public library aswell.
