"Applet Notinated"

Thread view:

Hi:

What does "applet notinated" mean?

Thanks,

Radium

Nothing, to my knowledge.

OTOH if that message was 'applet not inited' or
similar in the browser's status bar (or similar), it means
either 'applet broken' or 'applet broken due to HTML' or
'applet broken due to browser'.

If you are a potential applet developer, I would suggest
you put them aside for a while, at least until you discover
where your browser's console is.  If you are an end user,
I would recommend dropping an email to the webmaster of
the page that breaks.

Andrew's momentary confusion points to the importance of rigor and detail in
the programming profession.  There really is no reason to misquote an error
message - simply *copy and paste* it into your message.

Spelling counts.  Case counts.  Details count.  Carelessness destroys your
strength.

Unfortunately - in this instance, unless I am very much
mistaken, this message appears in the status-bar of the
OP's UA, or 'OS component' as it might more accurately
be described.  That message is very reminiscent of IE's
obscure 'applet failed' message.

There is no way to copy messages from the IE status bar,
that I have ever discovered - though that text might also
appear in the console*..

*  Or at least, one of the 2 possible IE 'java' consoles.

Sure there is.  It's called "being careful".

And this provides an excuse for carelessness exactly how?

So copy and paste through the wetware (the clipboard is your brain).  The
message is sitting right in front of you; there is absolutely no excuse for
copying it wrong.

Did you try different browser to see whether it gives you same error
message?  when you compile, did it give any error message?  It would
be helpful if you post your code here

You probably mean the message "applet notinited" in your brower's status
bar. This message is short for "applet not initialized" and means that
the browser could not initialize the applet. This can have many reasons:
(1) a bug in the <APPLET ...> HTML code of the web-page
(2) a missing jar-file or class-file on server-side
(3) a bug in the Java code of the applet.

You may want to google for "applet notinited" to find find thousands of
hits.

Thanks and sorry for my misspelling. It indeed was "applet notinited"
that I was asking about.

Once again, thanks for the assistance.

According to that site, the "applet not inited" message should only
occur on Internet Explorer. I've gotten those messages on Mozilla and
Netscape.

You misread the site.  It lists a number of possible reasons for the error,
including maybe an IE version that has a bad or missing Java.  If that's not
the case, run down the rest of the list to see what might apply.

Did you notice that the table is headed "Real Error / Possible Causes"?  Focus
on the word "possible" and the fact that "causes" is plural.  Do not assume
the list is exhaustive.
