Smokin'. This is the kind of unsolicited advertising I like to get.
Just curious, is this rate similar to what other people expect to see,
with similar levels of experience? It sounds on the upper end to me,
but it also doesn't sound like a typical "5 years experience with Java"
position to me either. They mean "Sr. Developer" and that's what
they're really after. Expect to walk on water.

Based on a 2000-hour work year, that's $170K-$180K per year. I wish I had
all those qualifications. On the other hand, I don't want to move to Maryland.

It's a kind-of high rate for the Maryland / DC area. Thank goodness I do walk
on water. (Assuming I know where the rocks are.)

Have you noticed how there are suddenly a great rash of Java hiring
ads? What gives? I think it ironically caused by the collapse of the
US dollar. In effect US programmers now work for 30% less, and that
is enough of an edge to make them competitive with overseas coders
again. They still cost more than overseas coders, but there are
advantages to having them in house, with knowledge of US culture and
language.
Further the collapse of the dollar is helping US industries that
export but don't need to import to produce their product -- a perfect
description of the IT industry.
