Why do my replies not show up

Thread view:
smcardle@smcardle.com - 21 Sep 2007 14:24 GMT
Hi,

I was under the impression that this group was not moderated and
therefor my Replies would show up within a few seconds. However, I
have replied to several questions posted and even though it states my
post was excepted I cannot see the replies in the relevent threads.

Does anybody know why???

Regards

It's not.

Ask your service provider.  It's got nothing to do with the group.

BTW, one question mark suffices to indicate an interrogative.

I assume that you meant "accepted" where you wrote "excepted", but the
meanings are nearly opposite so please correct me if I erred.  If "it" (What
is "it", anyway?  You never said.) actually did except your posts that would
explain why they aren't reaching the group.

You're right that the group is not moderated.  I see two earlier
messages from you this morning.  If you don't see them, I'm not sure
why.

a) The net cabal are secretly conspiring to deny you freedom of speech.
They are out to get you.

b) You lack patience. Newsgroups aren't instant messaging. It wasn't
designed that way.

c) You are using Google Groups, notorious for such delays and other
serious failings. In preference to GG, many experienced newsgroup
participants use a standalone newsreader with an ISP that provide an
NNTP server.

Personally, I suspect b+c

What would 'it' be, exactly?  Google Groups?

You got some good advice/tips from the other responses,
but there is definitely something odd going on with this
thread.  I tried bringing up the thread in GG and saw the
list of people who contributed, but GG would not produce
the actual messages - saying instead..
"There are no more messages on this topic. All
messages in this topic may have expired or
been deleted."

I suspect, after a similar experience recently, that GG
is beginning to do some very strange things with posts.

Had you, by any chance, said anything recently to a
GG poster that might have upset them?

You have a crummy newsserver.  See

http://mindprod.com/jgloss/newsreader.html

To get a snappy one, you will likely have to pay.

If OP doesn't mind Unix, the news server here (at sdf) is snappy
enough on the 5/7 of the days where it isn't totally broken.

That is correct.

Generally, Usenet posts take some time to spread throughout the news
servers. Replies do not necessarily show up in a few seconds -- that
also depends on the backlog of the news spools.

Do you mean "accepted"? A post being "excepted" would typically not
follow normal rules...

Google Groups has known problems in this area. My personal opinion is
that someone messed up a caching procedure, but as I am not a Google
developer, I cannot say.

Try other news servers and news clients instead.

I don't know about Goooooooooogle Groups but my newsreader does not usually update my screen with
new messages.  I have to explicitly leave the group and enter it again to see new any new messages that
have arrived.

in Forte Agent you click a "get new message headers" button when you
want the list refreshed.   See

Fat lot of good that does him, since he is using XNews rather than
Agent. ;)
