How to draw a 1-bit or 4-bit Bitmap in java

Hi,
I wanted an application to draw all kind of Images selected by the
user
Java supports rest of the file types ..such as gif , jpg
For BMP I found one source from
http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/javatips/jw-javatip43.html
but that too dont support 1 bit and 4 bit bmp files drawing..
can anybody help me??

If I understand
http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jai/forDevelopers/jaifaq.html#24to4
correctly, JAI should do the trick.
