The problem with writing a resume and doing an interview is you can't
just do a bang up job, you have to STAND OUT from everyone else as the
BEST.  That is why some people can never get a job even though they
are perfectly decent candidates.

I used to dread hiring new people because it meant weeding through
huge piles of resumes all boring as all get out, most from perfectly
reasonable sounding people.  How to decide?

You have to take a chance and make your resume different, even if you
risk turning off the reader.

Hints:
show up in person to deliver your resume and leave a flower in a vase
for the reception. This puts a face on you and makes you memorable.
The more they know you, the better your odds.  Find as many excuses as
possible to show up.

Study up on the company. Devote considerable space not on how
wonderful YOU are, but how wonderful the company is and why you want
to work there rather than some other place.  The most irritating sort
of employee is the hot shot who quits for greener pastures just after
he starts to get really useful. Further, you appreciation of the
company proves to the boss what an intelligent, perceptive fellow you
are.

Apply for jobs that are not advertised. If you are lucky you will hit
just al a job is about to be published.  In a small company they will
take you rather than go through the costly and boring hassle of
interviewing hordes.

Back in the 70s I got all kinds of people jobs by guiding them to
follow those simple principles.

Following your advice means GETTING the job is more work than DOING
the job. Seems a tad inefficient. :P

Cute. If you happen to have a crystal ball handy, or a friend with
precognitive powers, or you've been abducted by telepathic aliens, or
have ESP or something, this might actually be a viable option.
