Basic questions on bluetooth with MIDP

Thread view:

Hi all,

i'm thinking about writing a small freeware for java
based mobiles and i hoped that someone who is more
experienced on that topic could spill some light
on if the thing is doable or not :-)

I plan a sort of chat application that runs on
various different brands of mobiles, communicates
via bluetooth (and/or wlan) and automatically
connects to all nearby devices that also have that
software running.

Important issues:
a) It should support as many devices as possible.
  1) A MIDP2.0 application using JSR-82 should work
  on all MIDP2.0/JSR-82 devices ?
  2) Devices without JSR-82 but with bluetooth might
be accessible via brand specific APIs. For this
devices, it should be enough to write a single
binary for all devices of brand?

b) The software should at least run on the mobiles most
common over here in germany - Siemens, Nokia and
  Motorola

c) As i can't buy every device supported, the bluetooth
functionality should be testable in an emulator

d) The app needs to scan for and connect to other devices
on its own, without the users having to confirm connections.

e) On mobiles with active bluetooth but without my app,
there must be no negative effects (like "confirm
  connection" windows) from the scanning

Did someone allready work on that topic and could clarify
if this is possible or what caveats i would have to
expect?

thanks a lot,
  Andreas

Anyone?
Or a hint on a newsgroup or forum that may be
more suitable to that kind of question?

thanks,
  Andreas
