Modifying files in Eclipse not updating timestamp

I have a Java project open in Eclipse, and I can open and modify my
class files just fine. However, when I look at the file on disk the
"Date Modified" is not changing. This is causing a problem with my use
of subclipse.

Anyone ever have this problem or know how to fix it?

I have tried Eclipse 3.1 and even Eclipse 3.2 RC7 on a brand new
Windows XP Pro laptop.

Are you really editing your class files, or are you perhaps editing your
java files?

Perhaps eclipse avoids recompiling class files which are not affected by
changes to the java files.

The bad guy is probably ZoneAlarm, see this post:

well, i think this is just a windows problem.

I tried another scenario. I have a python script, say Foo.py which I
have executed before so there exists a Foo.pyc.

So, I edited Foo.py and then executed it again. Sure enough my changes
were not displayed, and the Foo.pyc timestamp was old. So I deleted
the pyc file, and re-ran the python script....it worked as expected
this time, generating a new pyc file with my latest changes.

I'll read the news item about ZoneAlarm (since i have the free version
installed).

how can I read that news link?? when I try it in the browser Outlook
Express opens and fails to connect to the link.

You need to get an account with the Eclipse newsserver. See

ok, thanks. did that, now how can i read the messages? what news
reader do you use? outlook express says that most likely the message
is deleted or expired.

so i have an account, however, i cant get outlook express to connect to
the news server to download the groups.

Big surprise! i removed Zone Alarm 6.5.714 ...and everything is fine.
I am rolling back to Zone Alarm 6.1 (check out www.filehippo.com for
past revisions). or www.oldversion.com

And I have added ZoneAlarm to my blacklist of software vendors who cannot,
under any possible circumstance, be trusted.

I use Outlook Express. I forgot to mention, but did you set up the
account in OE? Go to tools -> accounts, click "Add" and configure an account
there. When I click the link, OE downloads the message from the appropriate
newsgroup.
