is there any free JDBC driver for sybase?

how does connection string looks like?

JConnect 5.5 is the last JDBC2 driver, JConnect 6.X is JDBC 3.

The connection URL is:

jdbc:sybase:Tds:<host>:<port>/<database>

Make sure that you take a look at the manual for the advanced features
(caching, HA failover, etc.)
