This is not a job-posting board. This is a discussion group. And please
don't give us that "I thought you might be interested in hearing about
..." stuff.

I'm just wondering if anyone in their right mind would ever consider
responding to a job ad by someone who doesn't even list an agency or
have their own domain name, referring to themselves by the pseudonym
"Lucky Star", and with an email address referring to a fantasy
character.

I've often wondered if fake jobs are used in elaborate schemes to steal
identities

Yes, it has been done. Commercial job sites claim to be wise to it. How
effective they are, I don't know.

You'd hope that someone perpetrating an identity scam would be clever
enough to use more realistic fake info.

Then again, maybe the theory is that if the person isn't careful
enough to question the contact info, they also won't be careful enough
to check credit reports and credit card bills ...

Actually, I hope quite the opposite.  The small amount of remaining
faith that I may lose in humanity is far outweighed by the relief I feel
at realizing that 99.9% of phishing/identity theft schemes are
perpetrated by people who failed fourth grade spelling. :)

(* Yes, I know they are just trying to get past primitive spam filters.
It seems counterproductive, though, in these modern times.  Now that I
forward all my email through gmail before it gets to me, I only seem to
get the spam with good spelling.)

obviously you have not read about 917 scammers and the number of idiots they
manage to catch.
