Ebay's implementation details?

Does anyone know or have any details on Ebay's implementation
architecture?  They claim "Java technology/Powered by Sun", but the
URL's are all "http://ebay.com/XXX.dll?XXX".

They seem to be using a lot of JavaScript.
Also you see comments like this:
