Not sure what the OP means by "a .net file" either. Is that simply a
file that ends with the extension ".net", or is this some sort of reference
to Microsoft's .NET platform?

Not sure what the OP means by "we" either. Is that "we" as
in "me and my family" or "we programmers" or what ?
Sorry, couldn't resist. :-)

The difficulty of that depend on that is in the file. If it is a text
file or XML file produced by a .net program, there is no difference
from one produced with Java. If it is Compiled C#, then you have an
intractable problem.
