The content of my website is very newsgroup-user driven. I see what
people are asking questions on, and either write new entries, polish
entries of interest, or add answers to questions that come up. When I
answer a question with an URL sometimes I have spent several hours
getting the entry ready. It just LOOKS like I am being lazy. Other
times though, the answer has been there for a decade unchanged.
It is a bit like inviting guests over for dinner. I often take a quick
look at the entry to see if it is presentable, and up to date before
posting the URL. It is atrocious, this leads a sweater-thread pulling
experience where every update triggers me noticing the need for
updates in other entries.
It must be frustrating for people following the URLs to see their
questions answered in passing in the entries. They are sure they
answers were not there a hour ago before they posted their questions..
Well, they often weren't. If it were me in that situation, I'd be
improperly blaming myself for inattention.

I was in no way hinting that you are lazy. It is very obvious how you
update your pages, and anyone with a few firing neurons should be able
to guess that you often first spend time to create or update an entry
before posting the URL.
I was just lamenting the fact that the "good old Usenet times" are gone
:-) and that no one is willing to step forward to start and maintain(!)
a group FAQ or a replacement for the networking FAQ.

The JINX site started by Chris Smith (http://riters.com/JINX/) is perhaps
something that could fill the role of an FAQ. A collaborative Wiki is
perhaps a better fit for an FAQ that purports to represent the collective
knowledge of a group. Also, a hyperlinked resource is arguably more
friendly than the old-style ASCII tome.

... started by Jon Skeet; then dead for a while, then restarted on a new
server by me. Just to get the attributions right.
