I would like to write a simple applet that will play an mp3 file. Any
suggestions? I read some of the tutorial and docs and its just confusing at
this point. With the interface and extends terms. I'm only familiar with
println(). I want to get into applet writing though. Before stand alone apps
anyway.

It will be harder to learn by writing an applet than an application.
Take a look at this site and their source.

MP3 library for the Java Platform
http://www.javazoom.net/javalayer/javalayer.html

or Java MP3 Player
http://www.codetoad.com/java_mp3_player.asp

Or just Google for Java and mp3

Sounds like you are on the front end of learning Java. You may have a
long road in front of you so take a peek at the Sun Tutorial called '
The Really Big Index, A list of all content pages in the The JavaTM
Tutorial' at

http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/reallybigindex.html

Have Fun...
