How about showing us a small version of the logo so we know what you
are referring to? the radiant divine master thing in the Applet splash
commissioned from the Hari Krishna temple collective?
Also be aware Sun does not let you use Duke or the coffee cup except
under special agreements. So the new logo would be off limits too.
You can use the Jump to Java logo, but even then under special
conditions.

Does not matter where you pick up a "pirated image". You are still in
the same legal boat. The worst that would happen likely is a lawyer
letter from Sun asking you to desist.
I got one from the Groshong ™ company upset I did not insert
™ after every mention of their name.
As kids Coca-Cola got very upset if we used the word coke even in a
school newspaper. They were desperately protecting the
lineoleumification of their brand name as is Groshong ™ -- a
maker of IV tubing.
Everyone has seen Disney ™ swoop down on some child for
trademark violation who dared wear a home made Snow White ™
costume.
