SSL with J2ME

Thread view:
crazyivan9@hotmail.com - 28 Jul 2005 14:51 GMT
Hi!

We are developing a Application which should connect to a WebServer
over an Secure Channel. For this SSL would be the best. Now, when we
try to call the Url with https we get an SSL Exception (Certificate
Exception) thrown.

After we imported the key into the keystore of the emulator it worked
there, but on real live devices we got the error again!

Is there SSL implemented into MIDP2.0 (1.x) or just in some mobile
devices?

If this is the case, is there some commercial or open source libraries
which enables a J2ME Application to use SSL?

Any help would be great! We tried alot of scenarios, but we don't know
if SSL is supported by which MIDP Version or just from some devices.

Thanks for your Help!

Regards

According to the documentation, the HTTPS protocol is supported by
MIDP 2.0. In addition, it looks as if the secure connection can, but
need not be established over SSL:

"[..] RFC 2818 defines the scheme.

A secure connection MUST be implemented by one or more of the following
specifications:

- HTTP over TLS as documented in RFC 2818 and TLS Protocol Version 1.0
as specified in RFC 2246.
- SSL V3 as specified in The SSL Protocol Version 3.0
- WTLS as specified in WAP Forum Specifications June 2000 (WAP 1.2.1)
conformance release - Wireless Transport Layer Security document
WAP-199.
- WAP(TM) TLS Profile and Tunneling Specification as specified in
WAP-219-TLS-20010411-a"

- qouted from the docs for javax.microedition.io.HttpsConnection

Hi!

Thank you for your information! The Server we want to reach has a SSL
V3 Certificate, so according to the RFC 2818 it has to met the
requirements. It is a Verisign Certificate, which should be no problem
too!

This is a project we are currently running and any help would be great.
If you are a (or someone else) developer, feel free to contact me
(sslj2me@yahoo.de) to speak about that. We are willing to pay for help!
