I am not a programmer, but my browser invokes Java for various sites.
My control panel says I have Java SRE 1.5.30,-40,-60,-90 and
1.6.-10,-20,-30 each 120-160 mb. Would I encounter any problems if I
delete all but the latest version via the control panel?

for running, all you need is JRE 1.6.0_03

This sort of question tends to pop up somewhat regularly in c.l.j.h.
Most of the primary responders will read several of the c.l.j.*
newsgroups. I also wouldn't call c.l.j.m terribly active: this is the
second non-spam message in a month.

Do you need to replicate all of the bugs of the various JREs? No.
If you're not a developer, the latest JRE is all you need. The question
is more nuanced for developers.
